Verse 5 to be exact.
An old mentor once told me to take the bible verse by verse, and to truly look into what it means, and apply it to your life.
Sometimes I think we are too quick to just read through our passages for the day. Almost like its a checklist, without really digging into scripture deeply.
It is very easy to do, especially when you have a busy day ahead of you, or something else on your mind (which has totally been me lately).
However, I think this breaks God's heart.
How much it must hurt Him to see His children so in a hurry, so consumed with something else, that they hurry through their time- or worse, not have any time with him- to get on to the next thing!
I am not saying that I don't do this, I have been struggling with it actually here of late. I am definitely preaching to myself!
So today I want to look into Proverbs 20:5.
It says:
"The purpose of a man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out."
After I read that verse, I began to think about my own life. What is my purpose? What do I live for. I know what my answer should be. It should be "to bring God all the glory in my life. To have Him as my focus night and day. To live for Him." Isn't that the sunday school answer we have ingrained in our minds?
However, when I really searched into my own deep waters, that is not the purpose I found.
In my deep waters I found self-centeredness, and pride. I found a girl who is slow to think and quick to speak. I found a girl who doesn't need to think less of herself, but a girl who needs to think of her self less. Does that make sense? My purpose was to put myself first, rather than Jesus' purpose for my life.
I don't believe that the Lord makes any coincidences. So it is no coincidence that I stumbled upon Luke 7:48
"And He said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven'"
What a great God we serve that loves us past our shortcomings!
I don't want to ever break the heart of my Savior.
So today I encourage you to take a look into your own deep waters. You may be surprised with what you find.
Rejoice in the Lord today sisters, for He has delivered us from deep waters!
xoxo,
Lacey Beth

ReplyDeleteI'm so thankful to get to know you Kaitlin! And in just a few more months we'll meet each other in real life! :)
DeleteThis is such a beautiful post showing your heart. I've been trying to approach bible study like you are now -- and a lot of times I "feel" the verses much deeper than when I just run threw my daily reads. Thanks for sharing this beauty :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! When you dig deeper, God reveals himself more and more!!
DeleteThis is so awesome. I have been struggling with starting my quiet time. I just don't know where to start.
