Once Again....

If you have been reading my blog for some time now, you may remember this dresser I picked up from off of the side of the road. Then I painted it bright yellow (yuck). Then I hated it, so I painted it light blue and white. I love it now! I have since added glass knobs to the middle drawers, but I need your help! Should I paint the other handles (only one pictured) white or should I keep them the color that they are? There's no changing once I've done it so I need opinions!

Also, one of the drawers is broken, but I think it gives it character! haha. Actually, when it's free and on the side of the road you get what you get. :)

So let me know your opinions on the knobs! I need help!

The Loft: Christmas Edition

I have found a passion I honestly had no idea that I had until Matthew and I knew we were going to get married....and that passion is decorating on a teeny tiny budget. I love after holiday sales where everything is 80% off and obviously I love thrifting. So here is the loft (apartment...loft sounds cooler right?) Christmas edition.

Can't wait till next Christmas when I actually get to live here and enjoy it every single day :)

Thrifty Thursday: The Side of The Road

My mom & I have gone thrifting so many times in the past few months. We found a new thrift store and we LOVE it! 

There were so many good finds. However, some of the best finds are found on the side of the road. 

Like this dresser:

In the beginning it was not the cutest thing in the world, but it was free! And this girl is on a college/planning-a-wedding-budget. And let me tell you, that budget is   s m a l l . 

These two pieces also came with it. The side table we are going to use as a bible//journal//notes holder, and the mirror is currently in the closet as a full length mirror for when I move in :)

I decided to break this down step by step since I didn't do that on my last post on redoing thrift furniture. 

These are the products I used:

To make chalk paint, mix 2 cups of paint with 4 tablespoons of plaster of paris. Then add just enough water to thin the paint. 
Put 2-3 coats of paint on the dresser (or whatever you're painting).
Let it dry completely overnight.

My awesome future mom-in-law gave me this "paint recipe" and helped me paint my entertainment center a couple of months ago! You can probably find other chalk paint recipes on pinterest, but this is my favorite because its from my mom-in-law :)

Matthew & I's bedroom is going to be white, yellow, and heather brown. 

This is going to be my dresser, so I decided to paint it with chalk paint and make it a light yellow. 

After I painted it, I let it dry over night. Then I sanded it down to make it look distressed. Try to hit the corners and sides. Anything to make it look naturally distressed.This particular piece got to ride in the back of Charlies truck on the way to Matthews and got pretty banged up naturally! If it was any other furniture that would have been awful, but that's the beauty of distressed furniture! You can't mess it up. 

After you are finished distressing, you have the option of replacing the knobs. I personally am a huge fan of glass knobs, so that's what I am going  to use. [this is an example of me preaching to myself about not being perfect...I haven't gotten around to the knobs and thats ok! It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful] However I also think any bright pop of color would make the dresser have a more eclectic feel. 

I also decided to line the inside of my dresser since it was found on the side of the road. I don't know what the last owner stored in these drawers, so I decided a nice fresh lining was just what my thrifted dresser needed. I went ahead and bought a liner that is just plain brown since it will be the inside of my dresser and no one will really be looking inside.

But we may be going with white instead of brown!

I'm collecting these milk vases for our wedding decorations!

We are planning on putting "I have found the one whom my soul loves" on a wooden sign above the bed :)

I think Lucy will like her new home she'll be moving into in 9 months! 

There is still a whole lot to do, but I kind of like it imperfectly beautiful :)

Speaking of thrifting, almost everything you see in this room is thrifted...the decorations (picture frames, gold tray, milk vases), the crocheted blanket is thrifted and one of the lamps, obviously the dresser is thrifted. The jewelry holder, candle, and bedspread are not thrifted :)

ALSO, a thrift find that I am super excited about....a feather down comforter! 

This one was found at a thrift store never used and still had its seal. It was originally from Target for $80, but I got it for $25! YAY! We were going to register for this, but it was a little pricey, so I am so glad to have found this! However, we are planning on registering for a duvet cover and pillows. I LOVE pillows, I currently sleep with four in my little twin bed at home...so that just means that when we get married, we'll need eight! (Matthew, if you're reading this..I'm only halfway kidding:)...)

Wedding Wednesday: [NEW PICTURES] How I Asked My Bridesmaids

I'm sure everyone knows by now that asking your bridemaids is not as easy as calling them up on the phone and just asking them anymore.

Nowadays we have good ol' Pinterest.

Pinterest is great, but it can be a little overwhelming for brides at times! There are so many new cute ideas. And as a sucker for all things cute and happy, I fall into its trap all the time. However, the way I decided to ask my bridesmaids came from a thrift store (shocker, I know). My mama and I were at one of our favorite thrift stores and came across these cute little tin mailboxes.

Then I had this idea of asking my bridesmaids with "mail in the mailbox".

I wanted to do something original and new, and this is what we came up with:

-White tin mailbox

-Wedding details on a tag

-The wedding color scheme (made by cutting scrapbook paper into large circles)

-The letter asking the friend to become a bridesmaid

-A wallet sized picture of the friend and I when we were little

-A diamond cookie and a Save the Date cookie from Whimsey Cookie Co.

-Lots of ribbon and washi tape

This project was so fun to do with my mama. She is my maid of honor after all!

The only downside was that she was with me through the whole planning, so she knew everything that she was getting, and also what role I was asking her to play in the wedding (Matron of Honor). However, she did not know what all I wrote to her in the letter OR what picture I picked of us, which are both pretty sentimental things (she cried). Love her :)

Thrifty Thursday: Colors & Polka Dots

Its thrifty Thursday again! 

I love thrifty Thursday because I am passionate about being a good steward of the money God has entrusted me. I feel like a lot of women think that if they get their clothes from Goodwill or any other second-hand shop, that their clothes will look raggedy and ugly but that is simply not true! I like the clothes I find while thrifting more than any clothes I see at the mall. And now, I can never seem to get myself to buy anything at the mall because I know I could get something like it at Goodwill for four dollars.

Thrifty Thursday: I Found My Wedding Dress!

We hit the gold mine this week while we were thrifting.

First of all I FOUND MY WEDDING DRESS!!!

Now some of you may be wondering why I would post this on Thrifty Thursday rather than Wedding Wednesday...well let me tell you why:

Because I found my wedding dress at Goodwill!

Ok I realize that some of you may be majorly judging me, because I know that going to find your wedding dress is a huge deal. You take your mom, grandmother, and bridesmaids and try on a series of overpriced gowns that you will wear for one day and one day only. Granted that that one day will be the best day of your life, but I just don't find using all that money on a single white dress worthwhile. 

One of my mom's good friends suggested that we go look at Barefoot Bride because they have a selection of dresses that have already been worn and are sold for a fraction of the price. However, that "fraction of the price" was still a few hundred dollars. 

Since thrifting is quite possibly one of my favorite pastimes, I told my mom that I wanted to have a wedding on a budget. The only thing I would splurge on would be the venue. I want to go thrifting for all the decorations, all the party supplies, and also...for my dress. 

Every time we would walk into a thrift store I would first head on over to the wedding dresses. Most of them were from my mom's time. You know...those wedding dresses with the huge puffy shoulders and go all the way up your neck like you're wearing a turtleneck? Yeah, those. Well one day we were looking through the dresses and my mom pulled out this simple, beautiful, brand name dress. (I'm not going into details because that's supposed to stay a secret till the wedding and all, that's also why there are no pictures.)

I tried it on and it fit perfectly. Like literally every part of the dress fit perfect like it was tailored for me. It is the perfect length and no adjustments will need to be made! I had a vision of what I wanted my dress to look like, and I am not even exaggerating when I say that this dress meets every single standard. It is literally my dream dress.  My mom and I just kept saying "Oh My Word...this is crazy!" 

But the thing is, it wasn't crazy. If you trust God with your money and your efforts, then He will take care of you. He will supply you with everything you need. He clothes the lillie's of the field beautifully (Matthew 6:28), how much more will He clothe you beautifully on your wedding day?!

This dress rang up at the cash register for a grand total of $14.99. That's right y'all. I am here to break the cycle of brides feeling like they have to buy $1,000 dresses. You don't have to do that! And I will walk down that aisle to my prince charming feeling guilt free & beautiful in that fifteen dollar dress. 

On a side note, we also found these awesome roller blades never used for $20 each! Needless to say we have used them just about every day since we bought them. :)
