I realized something recently that I should have realized a long long time ago.
Thankfulness should be the heartbeat of Christ-followers. It should be the center of everything we do. The first thing we resort to when a blessing comes our way, or even when something that wasn't in our plans comes along. As Christ-followers, we should be waking up with words of thankfulness and praise to our Savior as the first thing that come so out of our mouth for another day to be alive. As I have read my bible growing up, thanksgiving/thankfulness has been the key element to the psalms, for the disciples, and one of Paul's main messages he preached.
So why haven't I caught onto that? Why do I roll out of bed and start my routine lazily? Why do I complain throughout my day if something doesn't go my way? Why am I so hasty to say "why?" instead of offering up a sacrifice of thanks?
My Savior deserves more.
I am tired of giving my Lord second-best. The afterthought after I complain. He should be the forefront of my brain. Constantly offering up my thanks to God for his innumerable gifts. And when we begin to recognize by stopping and acknowledging everything we have to be thankful for, joy just overflows.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. …
May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!
That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.
And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.
I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers.
